Welcome to the Downland Youth Network website
The Downland Youth Network seeks to improve access to opportunities for children and young people in rural communities within West BerkshireFour smily children in a huddle

The Downland Youth Network (DYN) is a voluntary group that was set up in 2002 by Parish Councillors, Church representatives and other people based in some of the Downland Villages in West Berkshire to address the issues of rural social exclusion for children and young people.Following extensive consultation with children and young people at the Downs School in 2003 and the making of the ‘Sort It Out’ video by 30 children and young people based in the rural villages, DYN identified three areas of needGirl hanging upside down on climbing frame

1.More activities for young people in the rural villages.

2.Access to transport facilities

3.Access to information.

DYN has been developing projects  in all these three areas since 2003.

Bringing activities to rural communities through the The Rural Youth Activities Project  and Parish Planning Project .

Piloting transport solutions through the Outrider Transport Scheme .

Providing information and opportunities for young people to be involved in creating their own e-magazine through the development of the Wazupwestberks Website .

In addition, we are trying to use our experiences to help other groups to consult with young people, through the Video Consultation Project . And, some of our work has been recognized nationally by the Commission for Rural Communities and British Telecom, so even more people can learn about it.
